The graph below shows how common various finishing moves were in each year of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) competition. The vertical axis is the proportion of fights that ended with a given move and the horizontal axis simply shows the year. First double click and then single click to turn on or turn off each graph.
One interesting observation is that there is in fact a fairly strong correlation (r = .72) between the proportion of fights that ended by “punch” and the proportion that ended by “doctor stoppage”.
It seems that the UFC has years that are particularly brutal and years that are less brutal. As Joe Rogan might describe it, “A ballet of violence.”
